 2022 Preview 


       Stanhope Elmore completed the 2021 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Stanhope Elmore just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region three with a 2-4 region record.

       The Mustangs had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points.

       Since 2010, Stanhope Elmore has gone a combined 67-62. Their 51.9% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Stanhope Elmore has managed to compile a record of 167-112. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 6A and 97th in the AHSAA.




       The Mustangs are led by head coach Brian Bradford who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 30-25 over the past five seasons at Stanhope Elmore. Under his direction the Mustangs have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bradford.

       Coach Bradford's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 39-46 (45.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Bradford's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

       The Stanhope Elmore Mustangs will play in Class 6A region two during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Mustangs remain in 6A but move from region three over to region two.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Mustangs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Stanhope Elmore came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Mustangs open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Shades Valley on Friday, August 19 at Foshee-Henderson Stadium. Last year the Shades Valley Mounties finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 6A region five. The Mounties closed out the regular season with a loss to Vestavia Hills by a score of 17-0.

       Stanhope Elmore and Shades Valley have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 2-2-0 record against the Mounties. They last met in 2019 with Stanhope Elmore winning by a score of 26-6.
